 +
[https://www.theglobalmathproject.org/gmw The Global Math Week 2017] is a coordinated teaching event all around the world when participants (teachers, schools, institutions) will perform the same workshop and activities across countries. The name for this workshop is “Exploding dots”, it is addressed to primary and secondary school students, and it is freely available as a series of videos, texts and activities for any teacher that wishes to deliver it on the Global Math Week or use it on its courses. The activity can take from 15 minutes of classroom time to any amount of time desired.
 +

 +
[http://gdaymath.com/courses/exploding-dots/ Exploding dots] is an intuitive method to understand our positional numeral system using dots in boxes. With this method, one can get an understanding of base n numbers, review and understand how we perform the basic operations, but also polynomial operations, geometric series, and other less elementary topics.
 +

 +
The Global Math Week is part of the [https://www.theglobalmathproject.org/ Global Math Project], founded by math communicator James Tanton to engage people in mathematics worldwide. Their activities, amongst others, include conferences for students and public, workshops with teachers, and meetings with supporting “[https://www.theglobalmathproject.org/ambassadors Ambassadors]”, mathematicians and educators that help spreading the project.
 +

 +
Teachers and math communicators are called to participate and spread the word of this event. More than 1.4 million students have already participated in the Exploding dots activities. Ambassadors, supporters and donors are welcome. Learn more at the website or get in contact at info@globalmathproject.org.

===[http://www.tcs.uni-luebeck.de/cmsc/ 3rd Creative Mathematical Sciences Communication Conference] (Lübeck, Germany, October 4 - 7, 2016)===
 +
The Creative Mathematical Sciences Communication conference (CMSC) explores new ways of popularizing the rich mathematics underlying computer science, including outdoor activities, art, dance, drama and all forms of storytelling. How to explain your mathematical research to your colleagues down the hall, in different disciplines, government, to your kids, mom.  Join with others for an enjoyable time exploring these issues and creating new popularization activities.
 +

 +
This is the third event in a conference series that explores new ways of helping students to achieve 21st Century competencies in mathematics and computer science. The previous conferences, held in Darwin, Australia, in 2013 and in Chennai, India, in 2014 saw a unique interaction between computer science / mathematics researchers and educators and artists (theatre, dance, graphic arts).
 +

 +
The CMSC has several aspects.
 +
* Involve and support researchers to share the frontiers of computer science and mathematics with children and the general public.
 +
* Research communication is a “two-way street”. Explaining your research can inspire new research questions. For example, Mike Fellows describes how “Kid Crypto” inspired the new research of Polly Cracker crypto systems.
 +
* Future directions of Computer Science Unplugged! Discuss with Tim Bell, Mike Fellows and others future directions of this grass-roots movement, which is now translated into 19 languages.
 +
* Storyfull, whole-body, kinesthetic math activities. Demonstrate and design new whole body activities that connect math with the inner self and community. Design activities that include cultural understanding and relevance. Demonstrate activities that foster curiosity, enthusiasm and perseverance.
 +
* Expand computational thinking across the curriculum, and explore how mathematical thinking strategies nurture 21st Century competencies.
 +
* Policy makers in government, business and industry. What are the issues and unanswered questions of executives and policy makers?
 +

The first NEF Global Gathering will be hosted by H. E. President Macky Sall in Dakar, Senegal from the 8-10 March, 2016. The three-day NEF Global Gathering will showcase often underreported scientific progress in Africa, holding up the NEF Fellows as examples of the exceptional scientific potential and progress across Africa.
 +

 +
Held every two years, NEF Global Gatherings will unite more than 500 of the brightest thinkers and distinguished stakeholders from around the world. NEF Global Gatherings showcase 15 of Africa’s top young scientists and connect them with leaders from Africa and the rest of the world in high-profile, invitation-only forums. These leading scientists, policymakers, business people, journalists, civil-society representatives and entrepreneurs will highlight breakthrough discoveries and catalyse scientific collaboration for human development.
 +

 +
By bringing the world to Africa, the NEF will issue a strong call for business investment in African science and government policies that fuel research and innovation. Global leaders will look at issues that can be advanced by frontier science like infrastructure, STEM potential and scientific entrepreneurship. Participants will also have focused discussions that will move from policy to practice.
 +

This is a second in a conference series that explores new ways of helping students achieve 21st Century competencies in mathematics and computer science, which includes math activities across the curriculum. The first conference in the series, held in Charles Darwin University, Northern Territories, Australia, from August 2 to 8, 2013, saw a unique interaction between artists (theatre, dance, graphic arts) and mathematicians / math educators. Importantly, the conference aims to engage research mathematical scientists in outreach and communication. Bringing together researchers, educators and communicators committed to bringing exploration and discovery into classrooms and among the educated public, the conference hopes to explore new ways of thinking initiated by Computer Science Unplugged and other similar efforts in the 1990s.

The 3rd International Conference on Mathematics and Computation in Music (MCM 2011) took place on June 15-17, 2011 at [http://www.ircam.fr/ IRCAM], the Institute for Research and Coordination of Acoustics and Music in Paris, France. MCM 2011 was integrated into IRCAM’s most important artistic event of the season, the [http://agora.ircam.fr/ Agora] Music Festival. As in the case of the first two conferences (2007 in Berlin and 2009 at Yale University), this conference aimed to provide a multi-disciplinary platform dedicated to the communication and exchange of ideas amongst researchers involved in mathematics, computer science, music theory, composition, musicology, or other related disciplines. The keynote presentations featured the renowned composer and conductor Pierre Boulez, founder and honorary director of IRCAM, Fields medalist Alain Connes, philosopher Alain Badiou and computer-scientist Stephen Wolfram.
 +
MCM 2011 was also accompanied by a series of conference-related artistic events (concerts, exhibitions, workshops, …) organized in collaboration with some of the most important cultural and educational centers of France, such as the [http://www.centrepompidou.fr/ Centre Pompidou] and [http://www.universcience.fr/ Universcience].

Their activities, amongst others, include conferences for students and public, workshops with teachers, and meetings with supporting “Ambassadors”, mathematicians and educators that help spreading the project.

Teachers and math communicators are called to participate and spread the word of this event. More than 1.4 million students have already participated in the Exploding dots activities. Ambassadors, supporters and donors are welcome. Learn more at the website or get in contact at info@globalmathproject.org.

Mathematics and Computation in Music (Paris, France, June 15-17, 2011)

The 3rd International Conference on Mathematics and Computation in Music (MCM 2011) took place on June 15-17, 2011 at IRCAM, the Institute for Research and Coordination of Acoustics and Music in Paris, France. MCM 2011 was integrated into IRCAM’s most important artistic event of the season, the Agora Music Festival. MCM 2011 was also accompanied by a series of conference-related artistic events (concerts, exhibitions, workshops, …) organized in collaboration with some of the most important cultural and educational centers of France, such as the Centre Pompidou and Universcience.
